Narrative Designer Role

We are looking for help in delivering our debut game

Space Rock Games is a fully-remote game development studio based in New Zealand. We are committed to ethical development practices with zero tolerance toward harassment and abuse while also having a no-crunch policy. 

 

Our first game, Criminals Within, is a 3rd person cooperative-only action game set in a medieval fantasy kingdom and is currently in development. 

 

We are looking for an experienced Narrative Designer to join us in the development of our debut game - Criminals Within.

Job type 

Full-time contract role with flexible hours, remote only. ​

What you would be doing​

  • Develop and maintain a detailed game universe and lore

  • Create interesting and believable characters

  • Craft compelling dialog, quest, and all other supporting text

  • Continuously evaluate and improve the narrative to ensure it is engaging and satisfying for players

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure the story is integrated seamlessly into the game

  • Build and prototype narrative systems that allow for storytelling within the constraints of the gameplay

  • Provide feedback and guidance to other team members on story-related content

What you must have

  • 5+ years professional writing or narrative design experience for games.

  • Shipped at least 1 commercial title with a strong narrative focus

  • Great sense of humor & comedic writing style

  • Familiarity with various narrative delivery mechanics, and the ability to weigh their strengths and weaknesses with regard to specific story goals.

  • Strong writing skills, with a proven ability to create compelling stories and characters

  • A desire to create the best possible gaming experience.

  • A desire to learn and further improve your skills 

  • A proactive and self-reliant personality

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and written

  • A portfolio of relevant work

What is advantageous to have

  • Experience with writing for AAA games

  • Experience with technical narrative design (implementation, scripting, etc)

  • Published writing (novels, short fiction, film, television, comics, etc)

  • A passion for medieval fantasy universes
