Senior Environment Artist Role

We are looking for help in delivering our debut game

Space Rock Games is a fully-remote game development studio based in New Zealand. We are committed to ethical development practices with zero tolerance toward harassment and abuse while also having a no-crunch policy. 

 

Our first game, Criminals Within, is a 3rd person cooperative-only action game set in a medieval fantasy kingdom and is currently in development. 

 

We are looking for an experienced Environment Artist to join us in the development of our debut game - Criminals Within.

Job type 

Full-time contract role with flexible hours, remote only. ​

What you would be doing​

  • Create high-quality 3D stylized environments, including architecture, props, plants and terrain

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure that the environments meet the game's design and technical requirements.

  • Create and maintain detailed texture libraries and contribute to material setups, to aid level design.

  • Optimise assets for real-time performance and memory usage.

  • Coordinate with other teams, including animation, lighting, and VFX, to ensure that the assets are integrated seamlessly into the game engine

  • Do technical research and implement tools and best practices to improve the environment pipeline

  • Mentor and provide feedback to junior artists to help them improve their skills and knowledge.

  • Create and maintain documentation of the environment art pipeline and processes

  • Contribute to the game design process, especially to level design

What you must have

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a 3D environment artist

  • Shipped at least 1 commercial title.

  • Strong understanding of 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, color, composition and silhouette

  • Strong knowledge of the art production pipeline and ability to adapt to the project needs

  • Proficient in industry-standard modelling software such as Blender, Maya, ZBrush or equivalent.

  • Experience in mentoring junior/intermediate team members

  • Passion for video games and a desire to create the best possible gaming experience.

  • A desire to learn and further improve your skills 

  • A proactive and self-reliant personality

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and written

What is advantageous to have

  • Experience with Unreal Engine

  • Proficiency with Blender

  • Experience working on AAA games
